Been listening to a lot of Interpol lately.
Pointlessly have been stressing about pointless stuff. When will I learn??
Lots of events I'm looking forward in upcoming weeks. A busy calendar is a happy calendar. At least a distracted one. (Surprise- I'm the calendar!)
There is:
A Ken Burns Extravaganza next week that includes a preview screening of his latest work, The Roosevelts, and a discussion and QA with the man himself (Burns, not Teddy). The nerd in me is bouncing off the wall with excitement! Ken Burns and his amazing documentaries were such a significant part my childhood and helped fuel my love of history. The fact that they were available on PBS for anyone to view and enjoy, even a curious, history-loving kid with immigrant parents who meant well but did not know much about American history themselves was truly great. I am a fan, and indebted, for life.
Blood Orange concert at The Ace Hotel Theatre in August. I have been OBSESSED with Cupid Deluxe since late last year and having missed the concert at The El Rey back in May, I am so, so excited I'll get to see them at an even better venue!
Also in August is FYF Fest 2014. Though I am staunchly anti-festival this line up was too good to pass up. Interpol(!), The Strokes(!), almost all of The Strokes side projects, Phoenix(!), Blood Orange (again, I know!), Real Estate, Slowdive, Grimes, Little Dragon, Caribou, Chet Faker, Presidents of the United States of America(!!?!!), among a bunch of others. Is it slightly 2003?? Yes. But perhaps that's why I am so excited about it! Full Disclosure: Since I am old and lame and a big hater I sprung for VIP tickets. It was the only way I could do it. I refuse to spend an entire weekend with a bunch of assholes in lines for beer.
Come September I'll be starting a Digital Marketing course. Yay to practical skills! This blog might be seeing some real action soon. Imagine that!
The Drums at The Mayan on October 4th! They practically defined the aural landscape of 2012 and 2013 for me. Very excited for their new record and for another chance to see them live! They put on a great show and are actually really nice. I ran into a couple of them at an after party for a show they played last summer. Super sweet!
Debating a Snap! class this weekend. Humph. Full calendars are also pricy ones.
